We are very happy to announce that the community maps are up to date! The total number of available map files are now 233!
Why did we need to restructure ?
We used to upload maps with numerous exports in zip files. This was a very labor-heavy process, and before long we were hitting the limits of our online storage (over 100GB of maps + exports!). Now that we’re getting more and more map submissions every week, it’s important to update the way we handle community maps going forward.
From now on, we will only be posting the .rwmap file with a thumbnail. This means that maps will only be openable using the Toolkit, however exporting these maps to your desired DPI is very easy as this video shows :
It also gives you the chance to mess around with the time settings, and to adjust the maps to be exactly how you want them 🙂
If you do not have the toolkit, just register for a 7-day free trial and you can export any maps to your liking!
We will feature a community map every day on our social media channels to bring attention to our favorites. There are some amazing submissions!
Browsing with thumbnails
The new structure allows you to download maps one by one by browsing through the thumbnails. There is no need to log in or even register just click on the desired map and then click on the download link. Each map has the description for importing them, but we are working on making this process even more seamless.
Why is my map not in the list ?
Most maps were lost to embedded content unfortunately. If you used a lot of imported assets, those would not show on these maps for others, only if you used Community packs or Official packs content. We decided to rework the map files with the next cartographer update so embedded content would be stored in maps, but that is a little while away.
New maps are evaluated on a monthly basis, so it could be anywhere from a day to a few weeks before your map is considered.
We hope this change makes things a lot easier for you to access the maps you want 🙂
